Andreeva enters Top 100, Vondrousova makes Top 10 debut

After two action-packed weeks at Wimbledon, the latest edition of the WTA rankings is packed with milestones and big moves. Champion Marketa Vondrousova leads the way with a new career high, while many of the players who have grabbed the headlines over the past fortnight are rewarded with rankings boosts, including Elina Svitolina and Mirra Andreeva.

Top 10 debut for the Wimbledon champion

The Wimbledon title boosts Marketa Vondrousova into the top 10 this week at No. 10, up 30 places from her previous ranking. Vondrousova’s place in the elite rankings was secured after her spectacular win over Ons Jabeur as she becomes the sixth player from the Czech Republic since 2000 to crack the WTA Top 10.

Champions Corner: How Vondrousova’s relaxed approach paid off

After finishing the 2022 season ranked No. 99 and falling outside the Top 100 in March, Vondrousova has enjoyed a string of consistent results this season, reaching the semi-finals at the WTA 250 Upper Austria Ladies Linz, the quarter-finals at the WTA 500 tournaments in Adelaide International and Berlin and the Round of 16 at three WTA 1000 events – Indian Wells, Miami and Rome.

Vondrousova’s previous career high was No. 14, which she set in June 2019 after reaching her first Grand Slam final at Roland Garros that year. The 24-year-old is the third player this season to make their Top 10 debut, following Elena Rybakina in January and Beatriz Haddad Maia in June.

Swiatek will be extended at the top

For the second consecutive Grand Slam, the world No. 1 ranking was within reach for Aryna Sabalenka. However, Iga Swiatek recorded his best career performance at Wimbledon by advancing to the quarter-finals to hold on to the top spot. The 22-year-old has held the No.1 spot for 68 consecutive weeks since reaching the summit on April 4, 2022.

Sabalenka remains within striking distance entering the hard court season, trailing Swiatek by 470 points. Through the summer’s hardcourt swing, Swiatek defends 2,270 ranking points, while Sabalenka has 1,335 points on the line.

Top 100 Debuts

After her run to the round of 16 at Wimbledon as a qualifier, Mirra Andreeva amassed 280 points, paving the way for her Top 100 debut this week. 16-year-old Andreeva’s ranking jumps 36 places this week, climbing from No.102 to No.66.

After finishing the 2022 season at No. 405, Andreeva’s ranking has improved 339 places, the biggest jump of any player ranked in the Top 200, thanks to a 2023 record that now stands at 28 wins to just four losses. Wimbledon was just the teenager’s fourth tour-level event, following Monastir 2022, Madrid 2023 (where she reached the fourth round) and Roland Garros 2023 (where she reached the third round, also as a qualifier).

Andreeva is joined this week by another Top 100 debutant in Jodie Burrage. Prior to winning the title in Nottingham, the 24-year-old Briton was ranked No. 131 in the WTA rankings. Throughout the grass court season, Burrage earned 320 points across five events as she climbs 30 places to No. 98 this week.

Andreeva and Burrage make it 11 Top 100 debuts this year.
